The verdict is in. Stefon Diggs is … not guilty.
On December 29 2025, star NFL receiver Stefon Diggs was accused of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault battery. The charges were brought against him by his private chef, who claims the attack happened on December 2, but was too scared to go to the police until December 16. Diggs and his legal team pleaded not guilty in February after the Super Bowl and categorically denied all accusations.
In a short two-day trial, from May 4-5, the jury found Diggs not guilty of all charges, likely due to a lack of evidence and the prosecution’s failure to present proof of physical injuries. Adams claimed Diggs slapped and choked her during an argument about her salary, but during her testimony, she was reportedly defensive and argumentative.
During the 2025 offseason, Stefon Diggs signed a 3-year contract guaranteeing $33 million and worth up to $69 million. However, he was released by the Patriots on March 11 to save $16 million in cap space. During the 2025 regular season, Diggs totaled 85 receptions for 1,013 yards in 17 games, becoming the first 1,000-yard receiver for the team since Julian Edelman in 2019, and playing a crucial part in leading the team to Super Bowl 60.
Diggs has not signed with another team, likely because teams were waiting to see the verdict. A reunion with the Patriots is not out of the question, but it is very unlikely that Diggs will resign despite the rumors of a return, because the team has been very persistent about trading for Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, and paying two star receivers would be pricey. This potential trade has been highly reported on for months and will likely happen in early June.
With a Patriots-Diggs reunion looking unlikely, some plausible landing spots include the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders, and Baltimore Ravens. All of these teams have talented quarterbacks and may just be a wide receiver away from winning the Super Bowl.
