Bright pink Starbucks Refreshers, canned energy drinks, and milky iced coffees walk through the halls of Norwood High School during the first few periods, and these drinks are bound to be found in the hands of both students and staff.
For many students, a fun drink comes from places like Starbucks or Dunkin’. Iced caramel lattes, matcha drinks, berry refreshers, and varieties of coffee are student favorites. On the other hand, some students gravitate towards energy drinks such as Alani, Celsius, Bloom, or Red Bull.
Fun drinks started as an occasional treat and have turned into a daily habit. But just how popular are these drinks? According to a student survey, the answer is very.
In a survey of 17 NHS students, 70.6% said they typically bring fun drinks to school, with the most popular drinks being from Starbucks and Dunkin’. 52.9% said they bring drinks to school 1-2 times a week. 29.4 said they bring a drink 3-4 times a week, and 17.6 said they bring a drink every day.

One of the most popular drinks from the survey is a Starbucks strawberry acai refresher with lemonade. As described on the Starbucks website, “Sweet strawberry flavors accented by passionfruit and acai notes, shaken with ice and real strawberry pieces”.
The reason these fun drinks have become so popular is the variety of flavors. There is always a new flavor dropping depending on the season for energy drinks like Alani and Bloom. The constant change keeps things exciting and gives students something new to try.
“I love fun drinks, I have one every day. I usually just drink Bloom, but on the weekends, I always have a refresher in my hand. I just think they improve not only my school day but my outside of school day” said sophomore Ava McCarthy
According to the survey, out of the 17 students, 88.2% said having a fun day significantly improves their day.
For many students, starting the morning with a drink they like gives them something to look forward to during the school day.
Whether it is the caffeine or the fun flavors, these drinks make early mornings and long classes feel fun.
