In December of 2025, the Norwood girls’ hockey team started its 2025-2026 season. Starting with a disappointing 0-2 record, the team’s brand-new captains reflect on what it is like to be a captain.
Q.1 How long have you been a part of the Norwood Girls’ hockey community?
Katie Malley, Senior: “I started skating when I was three. I’ve been playing hockey since I was six, and I have been playing all throughout High School.”
Olivia Tucker, Senior: “I have been playing hockey since I was seven and a half, and I’ve been playing Norwood hockey ever since.”
Isla Wilson, Senior: “I have been playing Norwood hockey since third grade.”
Daniela Parise, Junior: “Probably about eight or nine years. I started playing hockey when I was five years old and then joined the girls’ team about two years later.”

Q.2 What are your goals this year as a captain?
Katie Malley, Senior: “My goals this year as a captain is to have a fun, successful season…help lead the teams to wins.”
Olivia Tucker, Senior: “My goal this year as a captain is to definitely be a role model for the girls to look up to. Try to be someone that they’re not afraid to come up to and ask questions.”
Isla Wilson, Senior: “My goal this year as a captain is to create a positive environment, and make everyone want to come to practice, and want to be there. I want to turn our team around. We haven’t had the best start to our season, so I’m hoping we can turn it around and find something positive.”
Daniela Parise, Junior: “ To just have a fun, positive atmosphere, and just have everyone working hard during practice.”

Q.3 What goals do you think the team should have this year, to help them succeed?
Katie Malley, Senior: “I think the team this year should go into each game with a positive mindset. We should try to hold each other accountable for things like scoring goals and playing to the best of our abilities, so that we can have a successful season.”
Olivia Tucker, Senior: “Definitely positivity, I think that’s a big one. If we’re positive, we’re not going to have a good mindset, and work together.”
Isla Wilson, Senior: “I think to just stay positive. I think it’s very hard when you start off the way we did, to still stay positive… but I think if we remain positive and just remember that we’re a family, that’s probably the best thing to do.”
Daniela Parise, Junior: “Just to give a hundred and one percent every day, at every practice, and every game.”

Q.4 What are you most excited about in the season?
Katie Malley, Senior: “I’m most excited for the team bonding, and the pasta dinners are always really fun. I am excited to just play, and I think it’s going to be a fun season.
Olivia Tucker, Senior: “ Honestly, the whole season. It’s just great. I’m really excited for our senior night, as a senior, I’m just excited for the whole thing.”
Isla Wilson, Senior: “Probably just playing, honestly. It’s my last season with Norwood, and as a captain, I don’t know, I just want to have fun.”
Daniela Parise, Junior: “I’m excited for the pasta dinners, and just spending time with the team.”

Q.5 What is your favorite part about getting to be a captain this season?
Katie Malley, Senior: “My favorite part about being a captain is being able to lead the team that I have been on for so long. Also, have a role where I can help younger players and be a positive influence on them.”
Olivia Tucker, Senior: “Just the role that it plays on the team. Having someone that the girls can look up to and talk to. Honestly, the relationship I could get with my coach too…having a say on what we can do as a team.”
Isla Wilson, Senior: “ My favorite part is being able to lead people. I’ve always loved doing it. I think also being able to just have an impact on the younger girls.”
Daniela Parise, Junior: “Getting to show leadership on the team, and help lead everyone to success.”
