This year’s freshman class is the first to participate in NHS’s new Freshman Academy program. When it comes to what they expected high school to be like, many explained that the reality was quite different than their expectations.
Some students said that their high school experiences were going all right.
Freshman Gabriel Soto said, “School is going all right; Nothing too bad. Could get my grades up, but it’s whatever.”
Freshman Trevor Carey said, “[The] school year is actually going great; my grades are great.”

The change from middle school to high school impacts more than others.
Gabriel Soto said, “At first, [I was] lost. Thought I would fail all my classes, but I found my way around the school, and my grades are better than I expected.”

“High school is not how I expected it to be,” said Jayce Woodson. “I thought the work would be a lot easier.”

Freshman Julius Abreu said, “My grades were a lot better in middle school, but my high school grades are all right.”
