Norwood’s turkey trot continued the tradition another year on Sunday, November 23. Norwood had a huge turnout of people who were ready to run, and some even showed up in fun, festive costumes. This was a run to make memories, meet people, and most importantly, have fun.
This year was Norwood’s 39th annual Turkey Trot, where the town meets at Norwood High School to run 4 miles around the town. This run involved athletes, students, teachers, citizens of Norwood, and overall just run lovers. It was a beautiful day there was a lot of work that needed to be done in preparation.

Runner Shan Coffery from Providence came in first place with a time of 19:45. Jeffery Sellaus from Walpole came in second place with a time of 20:59. Mike Doctocco came in third place from Bridgewater with a time of 21:17.
The Turkey Trot had so many runners ranging from all ages, going down to around 9 years old. Runners also had a large population from Norwood, but some runners were from Westwood, Walpole, and Canton. Norwood High School students got the opportunity to run in relays, with groups of 4.
Senior Katie Malley, one of the runners, was a part of a relay for the second year in a row. She has a big tradition of participating in this run.
“This Turkey Trot means a lot to me, it is a chance where I get to be involved in the town and run with friends and family! I have run the Turkey Trot in a relay the last 2 years, and it is such a fun memory I will always remember,” she said.
A big part of this run was also getting to recognize all the amazing runners and their accomplishments, with fun prizes and awards. The Turkey Trot had a lot of local companies that had runners show up to participate and donate. Some of the top donors are the local gym, The Vanderbilt Club, and One Local Bank, as well as many others.
The Booster Club and Norwood High School’s Athletic Director, John Longley, play a big role in the Turkey Trot to make everything run smoothly.

According to Longley, everyone worked hard behind the scenes to make another tradition in Norwood continue.
“Booster Club President Ali Baranowski and former Booster Club President Paul Forrest, along with race coordinator Jim Henry, are major contributors to the event!” said Longley in an email.
“The best part of the Turkey Trot is seeing the current students run the relay, along with all of the alumni and community members that come out to support and run in the event. I truly believe this is one of the best events in Norwood every year!” he said.
