On October 2, students from the 9th grade attended the annual Student Involvement Fair to get a look at some of the clubs and sports NHS has to offer.
The class of 2029 was split into 3 groups, each going down to visit the club fair at a different time during WIN. There were lots of different clubs at the fair, and lots of candy for anyone who signed up. Clubs are a great way to meet new people, get involved, make friends, and learn new skills.
A club focused on community service that was at the fair was the Student Council. Student Council is open to everybody, and it focuses on making the community better.
Member of Student Council, Deandrey Alexandre said, “Student Council is a great thing. It embodies the student representation of our school. We raise money for each class. We ensure everyone has a great prom, semi, and extra events. We even have governmental power where we can talk to the administration about changes in rules and policies that make students uncomfortable. We also have community service. We have great community service opportunities. We don’t just get hours, we connect with our community.”

Another club focused on making the community a better place at the fair was the Environmental Youth Coalition (EYC). They focus on environmental awareness in the community. They organize a lot of environmental events and fundraisers in the high school as well.
Member of Environmental Youth Coalition Sylvia Caparrotta said, “[Environmental Youth Coalition is] focused on raising environmental awareness to Norwood High School and its community. We do a lot of fun events. We’re a non-profit so all our funds go back into the community and to environmental organizations. We always celebrate Earth Week, which is in April, which is probably our main event. We also have our holiday fundraiser, and then mixed in, we have new things we like to try out every year.”
Led by the Librarians, the Book Club reads an assigned book and meets once a month in the library during lunch to talk about it.
Emanuelly Silva said, “Book club is basically a club where you read books, and then we meet up and talk about them during lunch, and it’s very fun.”

Founded by Lexie Powers, Crafting Club is a club to learn how to craft and create art with friends. Crafting Club meets in room 351.
Lexie Powers said, “We kind of just hang out, people bring their crafts or we have supplies for people who want to learn any craft, and it’s really chill. It’s not a big commitment, and people can come and go as they please. Someone draws, I’ve been working on crochet projects, and last time someone brought a sewing project. It’s a good opportunity to make friends with the same interests and it’s very noncommittal. We meet about every other Thursday, and the dates are posted in Google Classroom.”

Led by Mr. Churchill, the chess club is a club to hang out with friends and play chess. They meet every Thursday in room 212. They meet from 2:50 right after school, to around 3:45.
Member of Chess Club Arthur de Almeida said, “It’s a nice club where you can go after school, hang out with friends, and play some games. It’s for any skill level. Come every Thursday to Mr. Churchill’s room.”

Math Club is a club to enhance math skills and challenge oneself. They meet every Tuesday in room 221.
Stephanie Kim, a member of the Math Club, said, “Basically, it’s a club where you can come every Tuesday after school. We do competitions, we learn new strategies, it’s a lot of fun.”
