In 8th Grade, you get called down to try to pick your course selections for your freshman year in high school. I would’ve never thought that the elective I picked would become such an important part of my high school journey, and how important it would end up being for me.
This elective was Journalism. I originally took the class my freshman year because I knew that writing was never my strong suit, and by taking this journalism class, my writing skills would be able to strengthen, and I would get to write articles on things that I’m interested in.
It became so much more than that.
After my first year of taking journalism, I knew that I wanted to continue to take it, so from there, my classmate Tori and I decided that we would take journalism all four years of high school and ended up becoming the first students at Norwood High School to take all four years of journalism. And I wouldn’t regret a single thing.
Journalism has become such a staple class, and I’m always excited to go and see my classmates and teacher!
The class is such a welcoming and engaging environment. You learn so much about journalism while still getting to write articles and do fun interviews.
But I think what I would say is my favorite thing about the class would be the teacher, Mrs Colahan.
I have never seen a teacher quite as passionate about something as I see Mrs Colahan. She is such a loving person and cares so deeply about each one of her students, and for that, I thank her; she really does make the class so special.
So thank you, journalism, for everything you have taught me these past four years; I will forever be grateful for the things that this class has brought me.
