Teachers play an important role in shaping students’ lives both academically and personally. They do more than just teach subjects like math, science, or English- they help students build confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and prepare for the future. Teachers often inspire students to discover their interests, set goals, and work hard to achieve them. Because teachers have such a strong impact on education and personal growth, it is important to learn more about their experiences, challenges, and advice.
In this Q&A, special education teacher Emily Mouradian was interviewed to understand better what it’s like to teach at Norwood High School and why it’s important.
Question: What made you decide to become a teacher?
Answer: Um, I’ve always wanted to help kids
Question: What does a typical day look like for you?
Answer: I sometimes have meetings, but when I don’t have meetings, I follow the same six periods as students do, and I teach ACE and inclusion English
Question: How would you describe your teaching style?
Answer: I like to work with students individually and show them through example
Question: What do you hope students take away from your teaching
Answer: I hope they learn to use their brains and not their phones, and I want them to gain confidence that they’re capable of doing their work
Question: What qualities make a student stand out to you?
Answer: When they’re hard-working and polite
Question: Do you plan to stay in teaching long-term? Why or why not?
Answer: Yes, I plan to stay because I enjoy working with students and seeing them progress

Answer: The most memorable moment was when I watched the students graduate last year
