Despite a spirited 3-0 victory in the second leg, FC Barcelona were eliminated from the Copa del Rey after Atletico Madrid advanced 4-3 on aggregate in a dramatic semi-final clash.
On March 3 at their home stadium, Camp Nou, Barcelona entered the second leg needing a massive remontada(comeback), after losing 4-0 in the first leg in Madrid. The Catalan side delivered an impressive performance at home, scoring 3 goals and pushing Atletico to have all their players in the defense line. However, the deficit from the first leg proved too large, allowing Atletico to hold on and secure their place in the final.
Barcelona dominated much of the match and took the lead when Marc Bernal scored in the 29th minute. The pressure continued, and just before halftime, Raphinha converted a penalty to make it 2-0, giving the fans hope for remontada. Bernal struck again in the 72nd minute, bringing the score to 3-0 and putting Barcelona within one goal of leveling the tie.

However, Atletico Madrid’s defense and goalkeeper held firm in the final minutes, surviving Barcelona’s relentless attacks to preserve their aggregate lead. Thanks to their dominant first-leg victory, Atletico advanced to the Copa del Rey final for the first time in more than a decade.
Even in defeat, Barcelona’s performance showed resilience and nearly produced one of the competition’s most memorable comebacks. Here’s what the fan of Barcelona has to say about the result.
“It was a good game, Barcelona tried to win the game, they were only one goal away from tying the aggregate and forcing extra time, which shows how close the remontada was,” said Senior Mark Thibuad.
He also said that it was pure Haram football by Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico Madrid, known for his all-defensive game style.
