The Grammys are an annual award show that celebrates the accomplishments of music that occurred throughout the year. This year, the awards took place on February 1 in Los Angeles and were watched by millions. But, like every year, it caused mixed reviews among students.
The big four awards given at the Grammys are Album of the Year, which was won by Bad Bunny for “DtMF,” Song of the Year, which Billie Eilish won for “Wildflower,” Record of the Year, which was won by Kendrick Lamar and SZA for “Luther,” and Best New Artist, which Olivia Dean won. These four awards are the most anticipated by the audience and generate the most controversy. They gain the most streams and hold a large social media presence.
With this being said, many people were upset with these results and wished that other artists had won.
“I liked Luther but, I feel like there were better options,” said freshman Cadence Phillips.
Similarly, this year, Sabrina Carpenter was up for six Grammys but lost all of them. She was nominated for Album of the Year, for “Man’s Best Friend,” Record and Song of the Year for “Manchild,” Best Pop Solo Performance for “Manchild,” and Best Music Video for “Manchild.”
“I wish that Sabrina Carpenter had won something because her album was really good and a lot of people listened to it,” said sophomore Lia Fruci.
Along with being nominated for these awards, Sabrina also performed “Manchild” live, which was highly enjoyed by fans.
“I liked the set that Sabrina Carpenter had on her stage. It was very cool, it looked like the set of a play or something,” said sophomore Lia Fruci.
One aspect of the Grammys that people look forward to every year is the performances. This year, all the nominees for Best New Artist got the chance to perform along with a few others such as Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, and several more. The performances for Best New Artist sparked many diverse opinions by students, as some of them were loved while others were not.
“I loved Maria’s performance. I felt like it really captured the essence of the song, and it is very good. I did not like Addison Ray’s performance,” said freshman Cadence Phillips.
Both The Marias and Addison Ray were nominated for this category of Best New Artist.
Every year before the show, there is a red carpet that the celebrities walk on, and they wear extravagant outfits that are always looked forward to by the viewers.
“I like how expressive they all are; it is like art,” said sophomore Michelle Connolly.
Each year, the Grammys continue to grow in popularity, they attract much attention and viewership. This show sparks differing opinions among many, but it always impacts people in their everyday lives.
