If you are a freshman looking for tips on making the adjustment to Norwood High School easier, look no further.
When you are a freshman coming to NHS, there will be many changes. At first, it can be tough to handle, but as the year progresses, adjusting will become easier.
Here are some things that will hopefully speed up the adjustment process and provide freshmen with answers to commonly asked questions.
Q: ‘’If I am lost, what do I do?’’
A: During passing periods, there is normally a teacher outside their class that you can ask for directions. You can also ask another student that is nearby for direction and most of the time, they are happy to help.
Q: “How do I find my classes?’’
A: Norwood High is one big square. For example, if you have a class in room 266, you will be on the second floor, and if you are in room 367, you will be on the third floor. If you keep walking in a circle you will eventually be able to find your class.
Q: “What do you do when you come in late?”
A: You go to the front office to check in and they will give you a pass to give to your teacher.
Q: “How do I manage all of my work?”
A: An agenda can be helpful, as well as doing bits of homework at a time to not make you overwhelmed.
Q: “Where do I go if I need academic support?”
A: If you are struggling with an assignment, you can flex yourself into your teacher’s WIN block to get more help. If you are unable to attend WIN you can email your teacher and ask if you can see them before or after school.
Q: “How do I get a hold of my guidance counselor?”
A: You should email them. Your counselor is identified on ASPEN.
Q: “What do I do if my Chromebook is broken?’’
A: You can ask to go to the Tech Office which is in room 166.
Q: “How do you check out a book from the library?”
A: To check out a book, search for a book on your phone we have our database you can search by genre the fiction is over here you can search by section you just put your card on the back of the book and we check it in using a computer.
Q: “How do you return a book?”
A: If you check out a book you will just turn it back into circulation. You place it in the box and it gets returned.
Q: “If someone is ill and needs to go home, does their absence get excused?”
A: “Each case is different. It depends on what is going on with the student. We have policies that we follow, so typically if a student has a fever the absence will be excused. It does vary case by case.”
