The Red Sox just haven’t had the best of luck this year. Everyone thought this season would be great and it just hasn’t. Why is that? People are upset, questioning what is happening to their beloved team and so far the main answer has been injuries.
Alex Bregman’s recent quad injury has really shocked the team and fans. He has been the vocal point of a struggling Sox team as of late. Other injuries to starting pitchers Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford have contributed to the lag. Without first baseman Triston Casas as well, the infield has been a giant train wreck.
It could be better but sadly star player Rafael Devers who used to play 3rd base is not up to making the switch to 1st. In the last few years he has been the stat- wise worst defensive 3rd baseman in the league. At the start of this season he was forced to switch to DH since Alex Bregman came but he wasn’t exactly happy with that. Now that he was being asked to play a position that wasn’t his own, let’s just say he won’t be getting the team player of the year award.
Now, 22-year-old rookie, Kristian Campbell has been asked to play a position he hasn’t even played an inning of at this high level. And Campbell’s former Triple-A teammate, also 22, Marcelo Mayer, has been reunited with each other at the Major League level. Mayer was called up to fill Campbell’s position (2nd base) as he made the switch to 1st.
The Sox are coming off a sweep and are on a 5-game slide as of May 28, sitting at 4th place in the AL East. They are currently 4 games under .500 and just look dead.

As much as Alex Cora’s done for the organization, it might be time to look for a new manager. The last few seasons have all been duds and seem to always end in disappointing fashion. A few of those can be excused as the team simply just wasn’t that good, but not this season. They have just as much potential as anyone else, and it’s up to Cora to turn it around, or it might be his time.
