Real Madrid ended the season with only two minor trophies, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. They were then purely outclassed by their bitter rivals Barcelona, losing four times to them this season.
Real Madrid lost the first El Clásico 4-0, the second El Clásico 5-2, the third 3-2, and 4th 4-3. This is very disappointing, knowing that Real Madrid has 3 Ballon d’Or contenders on the same team. Towards the middle to the end of the season, Kylian Mbappe picked up his form by scoring 41 goals across all competitions, while the rest of the stars dipped in form.
Vinicius Jr. finished 2nd in the Ballon d’Or rankings last year after a controversial decision from UEFA to give the Ballon d’Or to Rodri. Since then, Vini has not been playing like himself. At the start of the season, he was doing great for Madrid scoring two hat tricks at the start of the season against Borussia Dortmund and CA Osasuna. However, as the season progressed, he let the Ballon d’Or get to his head and ended up not being half as good as last season.
Jude Belligham also dipped in form by only scoring a total of 13 goals across all competitions.
Last season, Bellingham was pure magic; he was a big factor in why Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3 times last season, why they won La Liga, and also the Champions League last year.
This season, Jude hasn’t been as good as last season; he was very inconsistent.
Real Madrid didn’t only have poor form in La Liga, they also had poor form in the Champions League.
They managed to sneak by the playoffs round against Man City 6-3 on aggregate and the Round of 16 against Atletico de Madrid, a very close match that Real ended up winning on penalties, but they fell short in the quarter-final to Arsenal, a team that is yet to win the Champions League.
Many people think that Carvajal’s injury and Lucas Vasquez being his replacement is the reason why Madrid weren’t as good this season, but Lucas Vasquez isn’t even a natural right-back; he’s supposed to be a right-winger.
People are also blaming Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s current manager, because he is said to be playing some players out of position.
Real Madrid will be making a few changes next year. They are signing Trent Alexander-Arnold as a free agent and Dean Huijsen for 50 million.
Carlo Ancelotti’s time at Real Madrid is coming to a close as he is becoming the manager of Brazil.
He has made it clear that he will no longer be the Madrid manager next season. Madrid is in talks to bring back Xabi Alonso, the current Bayer Leverkusen manager.
“I have great respect for Real Madrid and these fans, and I’m totally focused on finishing the last part of this spectacular adventure,” said Carlo Ancelotti when asked about his managerial career at Real Madrid.
In general, Madrid was not as good as they were expected to be this season. Madrid’s other superstars need to be more consistent to be ready for next season.
