Y’all audiobook fans really don’t have the right to call yourselves ‘readers.’
I’m just stating the facts. Over the past few years, audiobooks have become way more popular than they used to be.
However, despite many proclaiming that listening to an audiobook constitutes reading, I have to disagree.
But here’s the thing: you don’t have to strain your eyes to ‘read another chapter’ or feel the pain of having to carry a huge book if you’re ‘reading’ a book series like “Harry Potter” by J.K Rowling
Y’all just have to be able to have an earbud in, and you’re good. You don’t get the joy of highlighting a quote or throwing the book across the room because you got second hand embarrassment from the female main character.
Another thing that has become very popular in the past few years are e-books. That has also been put up to debate.
I’d even be willing to leave the e-reader girlies under the belt of readers. Yes, they don’t have the experience of a physical book or the big lump in their purse when they go run errands.

But you know what e-book readers do? Actually read the text written.
They also actually experience the eyestrain. They can highlight and get the embarrassment from the female lead. While you guys can’t.
I’m not saying that you don’t enjoy literature. I’m just saying you don’t read it.
Y’all audiobook listeners have taken over BookTok, which was at first a subgenre of TikTok that readers went to find book recommendations or even edits of their favorite books.
Honestly it is really unfair that you guys decide to take the title of readers and post silly TikToks saying something like ‘Come cook with me while listening to ‘Fourth Wing’ by Rebecca Yarros’ then some have the audacity to say ‘I love reading’ yet they don’t physically pick up the book.
So audiobook listeners, please give us back the title of readers and make your own title.
