On the week of April 14-17, the Environmental Youth Coalition, better known as the EYC, celebrated this year’s Earth Week.
Tuesday the 15th was the first interactive activity that the club held. At WIN that day, students went down to the courtyard to paint pots and plant seeds of various types of flowers and plants. There, students got the opportunity to engage with one another while also getting a chance to learn more about their community environment.

“The environmental crisis is a real problem in the world that’s only getting worse, and will be catastrophic for our world if we don’t take steps.”, said Allison Leichtman, adviser of the EYC.
On Wednesday, April 16, the EYC invited students to the front steps to learn about their carbon footprint on the planet.
The EYC called it an “in-school field trip”, where students walked around to see and learn new things from the EYC members and others.

Sylvia Caparrotta, co-president of the EYC, was happy to be able to share her club’s mission with the rest of the school.
“… I think it was actually really fun. We’d (the EYC) never done anything like that before. It was completely new. But I could tell that students were enjoying it, I could tell that the EYC members were enjoying it,” she said.
Students got a chance to walk around and experience different scientific creations while learning something new from members of the EYC.

On Friday, the EYC members took a moment to reconnect with nature on an after-school hike.
Students took this as a chance to learn as a unit about Norwood’s environmental stability.
Freshman Lia Fruci enjoyed learning from the EYC,
“It’s a good way to help your environment and be more educated about global warming,” she said.
