The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League has seen many crazy results in the quarter-final clashes.

Founded in 1955, this competition is played by the best clubs in Europe to crown the best club in Europe every season.

During the quarter-final stages of this competition, the match-ups were FC Barcelona vs. Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain vs. Aston Villa, FC Bayern Müchen vs. FC Internazionale Milano, and Arsenal vs. Real Madrid.

The knockout stages usually feature two legs, one at the home of one team and the other at the home of the other team.

FC Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund

In the first match-up, Barcelona vs Dortmund, Barca won the first leg 4-0, which sealed their place in the semis even though they lost 3-1 in the second.

According to Fotmob, Barcelona had 60 percent possession in the first leg and 54 percent in the second, with Dortmund having 40 percent in the first leg and 46 percent in the second leg.

Barcelona also had 3.69 expected goals(xG) in the first leg and 0.49 in the second, with Dortmund having 1.45 xG in the first leg and 3.81 in the second. Over the two legs, Barcelona took 25 shots, with 12 being on target.

Dortmund had 31 shots, with 14 of those being on target.

Barcelona’s intricate passing ability and superstars like Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, who have been on another level this season, were crucial in the win. 

Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa

This match-up was not surprising at all, as Paris Saint-Germain(PSG) were clear favorites to not only advance to the semi-finals but also win the whole thing.

In the first leg, PSG put three against Aston Villa, with Villa only getting one in that leg.

The second leg saw a 3-2 scoreline for Aston Villa, but with an aggregate score of 4-5, PSG were through to the semis.

According to Fotmob, PSG had 75 percent possession in the first leg and 66 percent in the second, with Villa having 25 percent in the first leg and 34 percent in the second.

PSG also had 1.95 xG in the first leg and 1.69 in the second, with Villa having 0.74 xG and 2.05 in the second.

PSG took 43 shots over the two legs, with 17 being on target, while Villa had 24 shots and 11 on target.

A few players, like Ousmane Dembele and January signing Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, were crucial in the win. 

FC Bayern Müchen vs Internazionale Milano

This match-up surprised many people as Bayern were expected to go through; however, a good game by Inter Milan saw them take a 2-1 lead going into the second leg, and a 2-2 draw was enough for them to go through to the semis.

Even though Bayern controlled most of the game, with 58 percent possession in the first leg and 62 percent in the second according to Fotmob, two goals from Latauro Martinez, one goal in each leg, a goal from Marcus Thuram in the first leg, and a goal from Benjamin Pavard in the second leg was enough for Inter to win 4-3 over both legs.

Inter also had 0.78 xG in the first leg and 1.49 in the second leg, with Bayern having 2.30 xG in the first leg and 1.40 in the second. Bayern had 40 shots over the two legs, with 13 being on target, while Inter had 25 shots with 10 on target.

Arsenal vs Real Madrid

This last match-up was the one that left the most people surprised.

Arsenal, who have not won the Champions League in their entire history, went against 15-time defending champions Real Madrid.

With Kylian Mbappe finally joining Real Madrid, everyone expected them to go back-to-back.

Declan Rice, however, had other plans.

Declan Rice scored two amazing free kicks in the first leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, and The Gunners(Arsenal) won 3-0 with another goal from Mikel Merino.

The second leg saw The Gunners win again with a 2-1 scoreline.

According to Fotmob, Arsenal had 53 percent possession in the first leg and 34 percent in the second, with Real Madrid having 47 percent in the first leg and 66 percent in the second.

Arsenal also had 1.64 xG in the first leg and 2.05 in the second, with Real Madrid having 0.50 xG in the first leg and 1.41 in the second.

Arsenal had 24 shots over the two legs, with 17 being on target, while Real Madrid had 27 shots and only six on target. 

Aftermath

The four matches were full of drama and upsets.

Now, Barcelona will face Internazionale Milano in the semis, and Paris Saint-Germain will have to go against Arsenal.
