In my life, I see a lot of inequality for women. I see pay gaps, abusive relationships, threats, and harassment. Most women I’ve been around have experienced some sort of sexual harassment, abuse, or inequality. One of the most important questions is “Why?” Why do women face this poor treatment so much? Poor treatment for women is a prominent issue in our country, and in the world.
Women’s rights have come a long way, but the journey towards full equality remains an ongoing challenge for many. While progress is seen in many areas, women all over the world still face barriers to true equality. To achieve this true equality, it is essential to advocate for women’s rights.
Women only recently got their right to vote in 1920, which was hardly one hundred years ago. But how long has it been since men were first able to vote? Well, the first presidential election was in 1789, almost two hundred thirty-five years ago!
Women have the right to vote now, but since Roe v Wade was overturned, states all over the country have been getting rid of the right to have an abortion. Old men are making decisions for women that women should have the right to figure out on their own. It feels like we’re going back in time. Abortion allows people to make decisions about their own health, body, and future, yet that right is slowly but surely being taken away from women. Taking the right to abortion isn’t going to make abortions go away, it’s going to make people get more dangerous and illegal procedures
Women’s rights have come a long way globally, with women gaining the right to vote, have an education, and participate in the workforce, but in many parts of the world, accessing these rights is an ongoing battle for women. Gender-based violence also remains a substantial issue, with an estimated 1 in 3 women experiencing abuse in a relationship worldwide, according to OXFAM International.
This is an issue that affects every single woman. More people should be stepping up for women, and speaking out against the terrible things that happen. I hope that one day, true equality will be reached and women feel more comfortable everywhere, but for now, women and girls still experience discrimination and violations of their rights.
Women’s rights are human rights.
