On October 2, freshmen and other new students visited the Student Involvement Fair outside the gymnasium during WIN block.
Many clubs and student organizations set up stands displaying what they represent. They each had lists on the table that allowed interested freshmen to enroll themselves in their club or student organization of choice.
The Women’s Empowerment Program is a new student group that attracted new members at the fair.
“The women’s empowerment program is a club based on empowerment for women and we’re big on feminism. We meet once a month on Wednesdays after school. We have snacks and light refreshments and we have a Google classroom that is free for anyone,” said junior Kim Laia.
Artstangs was also represented at the fair. The Artstangs are a club created and run by art teacher Elizabeth Mullaney. The club’s motive is to provide a time for students to do more art outside of scheduled art class times. The club is recommended for students who enjoy and excel in art and are looking to do more of it.
“Our stand is for the Artstangs club. It is a club for kids who like art and want to do more with it. We are here to collect names of freshmen students who love art and want to do more art outside of school art classes,” said junior Tessa Lahaise.
The Friendship Club also had a stand at the student involvement fair. Many people join this club as a great opportunity to make new friends, do fun activities, and hang out. They meet in the dining hall every other Thursday at 2:55.
“The goal of the Friendship Club is to unify students with general education with students that either have cognitive or social disabilities to build relationships,” said Adviser Michelle Kelley.
The Student Council recruited freshmen at the fair as well. It meets the second Monday of each month at 3 PM in the library. If you are interested in the full schedule, email Adviser Kate Curtin for more details.
“The Student Council is made up of associate members and officers from all grades who want to make an effort in the planning of school-wide events and volunteer opportunities. They’re always accepting new members so feel free to pop in,” said junior secretary Tori Roderick.
There are many other great clubs that NHS has to offer. If you are interested in another club, email your guidance counselor to ask for more details.
