Advanced TV4, TV3, and Intermediate TV2 spent the month of October planning, filming, and editing short horror films to submit to the Student Television Network’s annual Horrorfest competition.
The Horrorfest competition is held every year from October 1st to October 25th. The winners are revealed on Halloween, October 31st. The Student Television Network changes the prompt to student-made horror films every year. However, one thing remains the same: the short films can not run for longer than sixty seconds.
“It’s kind of stressful, being on a deadline and having to produce something in only twenty-five days,” said Senior Sindhu Kolli.
Filmmaking is incredibly difficult in itself; having less than a month to plan, write, storyboard, film, and edit the project is even harder.
This year, the prompt was “Technology can be an evil thing, too.”
The rules were: “Your protagonist can not have a face-to-face conversation with someone without technology, and technology must contribute to practically lighting a shot.”
Nonetheless, Kolli said “I think our project came out the best it could’ve. I’m glad we were able to submit it on time.”
It was the Juniors’ first time competing. They formed groups and worked together to create their short films.
Along with the Juniors, the Sophomores in TV2 had the chance to produce their own short Horrorfest, although, they did not adhere to the same rules as the Advanced classes did. They had the opportunity to think of their own story and prompt and create whatever they wanted within sixty seconds.
“I had a really good time, it was fun making a little movie with my friends. It wasn’t that scary since we had like two weeks to do it but I’m still happy,” said TV2 Sophomore Jayden Bautista.
On October 31st, students from all classes came together to watch the Horrorfest winners be announced and although no Norwood submission placed within the top 5, they were able to reflect on their films and learn from this experience.
